“Jon is a very talented musician who stepped in for us at the very last minute, learning 2 x 45 minute sets of new material in a very short time. He nailed it and some. He’s a true gent with great stage presence and an ultimate professional. I highly recommend him and look forward to sharing a stage with him again in the future”
Gary Edward Jones, Singer/Songwriter
Jon Fellowes is a north west-based performer, session musician, songwriter and music journalist. He is also a freelance consultant for music development and production companies, around the UK.
Growing up just outside of Wolverhampton (In the heart of the black country), Jon first picked up the Guitar aged 14 at school, where he was soon to discover the groove and soul of rhythm and blues music. He has since studied music throughout his educational life, culminating in a 2:1 Bachelor of the Arts degree in Popular Music Performance from the University of Chester, UK in 2014. Though this education has taught him the principles of many styles of music, blues has always remained a strong influence.
Jon has thrived off live performance since the very beginning – a passion that has lead to him playing at festivals, celebrity weddings, live TV sessions and touring overseas, as well as internationally recognised music industry conferences, and some of the UK’s largest corporate events.
Jon has played with a huge variety of acts, and has played in bands filling support slots for the likes of Paul Carrack (Mike & The Mechanics), Iziz Abrahim (The Stone Roses/ Ian Brown Band) and Louis Barabbas & The Bedlam 6. He has also had the honour of sharing festival bills with acts such as Peter Hook and The Light (Joy Division), The Kooks and Albert Hammond Junior (The Strokes). In November 2013 he completed a tour of Brazil, which involved both performing and educating in British popular music and was featured on state television in the process (a state roughly the size of France). At home, Jon has performed in such illustrious venues as The Hippodrome Casino, in Leicester Square, London (A stage graced by Prince just two weeks prior), The Floral Pavilion Theatre, Sarah Beeny’s Rise Hall, The Cavern Club Liverpool, the BBC building in Media City Salford, Manchester United’s Old Trafford Stadium, Cardiff Millennium Stadium, The Welsh College of Music & Drama and the highly regarded Sound City Conference.
As well as playing live, Jon has an extensive portfolio of studio work, including both live and pre – recorded radio sessions, and composition for TV. His session career began by contributing bass guitar to Dominic Dunn’s first single ‘Keep Them Tight’ (since played on Sky Sports TV and featured by Radio 6 Music) and has expanded into sessions at award-winning studios all around the country and internationally, working with numerous artists and in genres like Folk, Pop, Country, and Rock. He has recorded numerous times at Liverpool’s famous Parr Street Studios (a studio that has played host to acts such as Coldplay, The Coral and Rhianna), as well as Western Recording Company, Orchard Studios, The Motor Museum, Pluto Studios (Owned by Keith Hopwood of Herman’s Hermits) and many others. He returned to Parr street to contribute both acoustic and electric guitar to universal music award winning Canadian singer/songwriter Ashley Fayth’s new album “Take Back the Fire” which received airplay around the world, and has since travelled to the south of France to record with american artist Bill Magill, working alongside the famously talented Pete Thomas, drummer for Elvis Costello, Bonnie Rait and Sherl Crow.
Away from his instrument, Jon has filled many roles in the music industry while at, and since leaving, university, working in stage management, live sound and promotions. In 2015, Jon spent several months as a resident Tutor at MusicLand Music School in Shropshire, before consulting as client liaison for Cheshire-based music development company Stage:Life LTD.
In 2016, Jon began contributing articles and online content for Last Minute Musicians, an entertainment directory service with over 3300 members and a combined Facebook audience of over 70,000 and counting. On their behalf, he has contributed to many other publications and websites, including The Unsigned Guide, Ditto Music, Musicentrepreneurhq, The Wedding Community and many more.
Recently, Jon has appeared in the live bands of Ashley Fayth, Gary Edward Jones and Jon Coley for various shows around the UK. He also made a trip home to Wolverhampton for a headline show with Heavy Metal act The Devil in Faust and performed at Liverpool’s world famous Cavern Club with American artist Shirr. While performing at an artist manager’s birthday party at a venue in central London, Jon played as part of a band accompanying the songwriter Peter “Wolfman” Wolfe for a rendition of his #7 charting hit “For Lovers” (the song originally featured Peter Doherty as vocalist, and was nominated for an Ivor Novello Award for songwriting).
In 2018, he was added as musical director and executive producer to team involved in a new stage show around the life of Paul Simon, Something About Simon, which tours around the country in 2019. He continues to collaborate with many different musicians, both live and recording.
